People Are Already Asking AI Who to Hire. Can It Find Your Company?

That got me thinking.

Most contractors are still thinking about Google when they think about being found online, but people are already asking ChatGPT and other AI tools who they should hire.

So I started digging into how these systems actually find, access and understand businesses online.

What I learned was that there’s more to it than simply having a website. A website can look perfectly normal to visitors and work well in Google, while AI and search systems may still have trouble accessing certain information or clearly understanding what the business does and where it works.

That raised a much bigger question for me:

If people are already asking AI who they should hire, what can AI actually find and understand about your company?

For years, getting found online mostly meant Google. Now homeowners and business owners can ask ChatGPT and other AI tools questions like:

“Who builds custom homes in Calgary?”
“Who is a good electrician in Barrie?”

and get an answer without scrolling through a traditional list of search results.

Your website can be one of the sources these systems use to understand your business, but first they need to be able to access it. And once they get there, they need to clearly understand who you are, what you do, where you work and why your company is relevant.

Some problems are straightforward website configuration issues. Others may involve hosting companies, firewalls, server security rules, or CDNs. If deeper investigation is required beyond the standard scan, I'll explain that before any additional work begins and provide separate pricing first.

This scan checks whether there are obvious technical issues that may affect how AI and search systems access your website.

It does not guarantee that your company will appear, rank, be cited, or be recommended by ChatGPT, Google, or any other AI or search platform. No one can guarantee that.

The scan also includes a basic check of how clearly your business, services, and service area are presented, but it is not a full SEO, content, reputation, or authority audit.

Those things matter too.

But before worrying about all of that, it makes sense to answer one very basic question first:
